Space Domain Awareness
Turn orbital data into operational understanding of threats, intent and risk. A five-day course that treats Space Domain Awareness as a military-operational concept, from the threat spectrum in orbit to decisions under time pressure.

About the course
Space Situational Awareness tells you what is in orbit. Space Domain Awareness asks what it means: who operates an object, what it can do and what its behaviour signals for your own forces. In a contested domain, this understanding is the basis for every protective measure and every decision.
The course bridges technical literacy with strategic and operational thinking. You learn to fuse technical, intelligence and contextual data into an assessment a commander can act on. The final exercise puts that assessment to the test under uncertainty and time pressure.
Who should attend
- Staff officers in space, air, intelligence and joint headquarters
- Personnel of space operations and SDA centres
- Intelligence analysts moving into the space domain
- Defence planners and policy staff in national, NATO and EU institutions
The Space Situational Awareness course or equivalent knowledge is recommended.
What you will learn
- Describe the space environment and the full threat spectrum, from debris to deliberate counterspace activity
- Characterise objects and behaviour, including manoeuvres and proximity operations
- Fuse technical, intelligence and open-source data into a coherent assessment
- Explain the role of SDA within NATO and EU defence frameworks
- Make and communicate decisions under uncertainty and time pressure
